Well what a good response to the Green Rabbit Calendar (as Kate has named it)!
You all seemed to think it was a good idea to have one winter month and an extra season known as Pre-Spring. Personally I think it’s a great idea and I’m here today with evidence to prove that this isn’t just a fantasy.
All the photos in this post were taken in my garden and greenhouse this afternoon. We have had a beautiful day here today, sunny, bright, blue skies and 10 degrees C, not bad for the beginning of January.
The sun was shining on my greenhouse and it was very pleasantly warm in there, making me think about getting my tomato seeds.
I’m also just itching to get into the flower beds and give them a good tidy up so that the new daffodils have their feet in nicely turned over soil.
Little shoots are happily sprouting out all over the place!
You can even see the new buds on my sycamore tree against this afternoon’s gorgeous blue sky.
This was the sky at exactly 4.30 pm this afternoon, still blue with this evening’s moon, there is now an obvious stretch to our days!
So there you have it, not all in my imagination but there for all to see.
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and maybe you’ll get out and about and discover some pre-spring evidence of your own.
Happy weekend!

I think that is a great idea Vivienne. I also noticed that it is already getting lighter so pre Spring is here already ;0) I managed to rake up some leaves today but the wind seemed to just bring more…I felt like Frog and Toad (or is it only me that knows that childrens’ book!) There are bulbs coming up everywhere…yipee! Have a lovely weekend,

Our weather is unbelievably different, we have been battening down the hatches for days now and mopping up rainwater from the window sills. Dry and sunny today thankfully but I didn’t dare put any washing out because I didn’t fancy a three mile walk to find it all again. We are seeing the odd bulb breaking the surface but I just hope Mr Winter doesn’t play tricks on us and come and freeze them all.

Dear Vivienne,
I am a winter child but, my goodness; after reading this post of yours I clearly feel a spring in my step! It goes to show how there can be many different truths and plenty of evidence to back every one of them.
Such joy to be found here and now will you please make a pre-spring bag?

Happy new year Viv!
Can we just call it spring already?!
I’ve not ventured far into the garden yet, there are too many flapping fence panels!!

Just seeing signs of spring has brightened my day
I too can’t wait to go dig in the dirt.

Wonderful especially as we spent yesterday dealing with the wind and the damage caused by it and no sun in sight!

Oh Vivienne…you have made my day x I love this new pre-spring positivity!

Beautiful pictures Vivienne.
When I lived in UK one of my happiest moments would be to see the snowdrops appear and daffodils – how I miss them as I never see them in Spain.
I think you need another Spanish break. The weather has been a balmy 20C every day since I returned from UK. Warm and sunny but of course once the sun goes down it is cold!

I love pre-spring! Your weather looks glorious Vivienne. It has been horrendous here with cold, wet and windy weather and bleak skies! Today, however is a different story. It is definitely pre-spring! The sun is shining and green shoots are peeking out. They must have heard you telling them that it is pre-spring! Have a lovely weekend – in the greenhouse if you can!x

Vivienne, I can’t believe you are having such pre-spring weather. Things are shooting up everywhere. Lucky Viv!!!! We have snow flurries everyday and have had negative degrees in the morning. BUT I am going to adapt myself to your calendar anyway. I like your thinking!!!!! Have a great weekend.

Yes, I think the Green Rabbit Calendar is here to stay now! Pre spring has been something I’ve always looked for each January, and now finally it has a name! Having said that, we also had gales blowing on our house and garden over the last week, though we get high winds at other times of year too especially being by the sea. But there are still bulbs peeping through, and that cool January light…pre spring is here! Have a wonderful weekend, Vivienne!

Your calendar is just the best idea EVER, Vivienne, makes the ex-winter months (they’re all spring now!) SO much easier to face and handle. Thank you so so much, dear friend!
And those flowers… Love!
Happy weekend!
Yours,
Mia

I’m another winter child, and I’m lamenting the lack of a winter so far, sorry. I think we’ve had a couple of frosts and just a few flakes of snow and for weeks now it’s been mild and damp. I feel quite bereft at the lack of proper cold! But I do hope you don’t now get a hard frost and and lose all your pretty pre-spring greenery. I’d just like to put in a plea for a bit of proper winter here in North Wales, there’s still time!

I have to say, much as I love autumn and winter (if it snows, otherwise I’m not that bothered) I am also in spring mode and thinking about tomato seeds – lol! Can’t wait for the spring flowers now, I’m ready for some colour in our garden. Bethx

Hi Vivienne, I love the pictures and I hope I’m not tempting fate by saying it looks like spring is on the way in your garden but it’s starting to look promising. I’ve got some daffs out here although I’m slightly worried that we usually get the worse of the weather end of Jan beginning of Feb so I hope they don’t get killed off prematurely. Leave it to nature I suppose!
It’s great we are starting to see the days lengthening, have a good weekend,

Happy New Year Vivienne!
Just looking at you lovely pictures here and it’s hard to believe the contrast in the weather from the last couple of years! While I am missing the snow I am pleased the the storms have been interspersed with such gorgeous sunny days as this, it is lovely here in Edinburgh today and so mild!
Wishing you and your family the very best of health and happiness for 2012!

I love this posting, it is so encouraging to see the signs of Spring ….. even if it is a little early. Although the birds these last few days have been singing as if it had already arrived! I had a photo of the chestnut in bud across at the park, and Bella loved a chase of the squirrels :0)
Have a lovely and productive week,
