October has generally been quite a good month so far, yes we have had a few blustery wet days but there have been lots of lovely autumnal days and it has been very mild. On Saturday we were out and about without coats in a very pleasant 18 degrees!

I have managed lots of garden time, tidying up summer bedding and planting bulbs for next spring, one afternoon last week I planted 65 bulbs mostly tulips and some crocuses too, my shoulders and back weren’t that pleased with me the next day though!!!

I also have planted up my pots and window boxes with lovely little pansies and violas, heathers and cyclamen to see me through the dark days until springtime.

Inside I’ve been making sweets from the lovely book ‘Sweets Made Simple’ by the wonderful Hope & Greenwood, I’m sure many of you in the UK watched their fabulous TV series.

Last week I made some Cinder Toffee and the previous week I made Coconut Ice which unfortunately didn’t get photographed before it was all eaten. There is so much more in the book I want to try.

DSCN2750

I’ve also been autumn bunny making, I’ve not quite finished them all yet but I hope to have an autumn bunny parade to share with you all some time next week.

I would like to thank all of you who left comments on my two French posts, I’m so glad you all enjoyed having a look around those two marvelous homes with me.

As a little thank you to all my very loyal blog friends I decided to have a secret giveaway.

I brought back some lovely Provençal lavender from the Marche de Fleurs in Nice along with some lavender soap with a giveaway in mind, I’ve also added a little spool of lavender spotty ribbon which although not from France looks lovely along with the other two items.

So if you left a comment on either French post you were entered into the draw and if you left a comment on both posts (thank you) you had two entries.

So with every entry being allocated a number and the random number generator used the winner of my secret giveaway was Simone!! I’ll get it posted off to you soon Simone.

Thank you to all of you who take the time to pop by here and leave a comment, I really do appreciate it!

I just wish I had a bag of lavender for you all!

Wishing you all a wonderful new week. :)

The weather has been wonderful over the past few days, just the way I like it, hot, sunny and no rain. It’s great being outside for most of the time and wonderful that its light until almost 11 o’clock in the evenings. If I could freeze time it’s at this point of the year I would do it!

This past weekend we paid a visit to Sir Thomas & Lady Dixon Park, the last time we visited I blogged about it here, that was during Rose Week, it is a bit early for some of the roses yet with many still to bloom but there were plenty of other pretties around especially in the walled garden.

Have a great week! :)

On the crafting side of things I’ve started my ‘June Girls’. This month the theme is a festival of flowers so I’ve got all my floral fabric out for skirt making, this time I’m naming them after the female members of my family tree!
So far I’ve made, from above left, Isabella, Anne and Ella.

DSCN1878

I’ve also started another crochet blanket (as if I haven’t enough blankets on the go), I actually began this when on holiday but I haven’t had the time to look at it since returning home. It is a lovely little pattern though.

DSCN1814

This pretty giveaway package was waiting for me when I returned home for holidays, the beautiful tea towel is from my lovely blogging friend Robin, thank you so much Robin I love it!

I employed the Random Number Generator to pick the winner for me as there were just a little too many to write out and the number picked was 72, WordPress very kindly number my comments for me and number 72 was Sharon! Sharon is a very talented textile artist you can check out her amazing work here.

My little blog is five today!

I can’t believe it, it really seems no time at all since the beginning, yet in a funny way it seems like I have been blogging forever.

I have met so many lovely people through blogging, some of them really good friends now.

Thank you to all you lovely people who drop in here to visit my little space of blogland and leave such kind and encouraging comments, some of you are here every time I post!

There is a section of my WordPress stats that gives me a list of the top seven people who have left the most comments in the last 1000 comments and it’s always the same people, you know who you are, thank you so much for being there.

DSCN1263

So to thank you all for joining me here at GRD, I thought it was time for a little giveaway!

I’d like you all to met Verdi, her name comes from the French for green and as she is a little green rabbit and is going to be a giveaway prize for the Green Rabbit blog, I thought her name was a good choice.

If you would like to a chance to win Verdi all you have to do is follow my blog and leave a comment, if you already follow then just leave a comment.

If you would like a second chance then either share the giveaway on your blog using any of the photos in this post or like and share the post on Facebook or Tweet about the giveaway and then come back and leave me another comment telling me you have done so. You can of course do all of these things but it’s just worth one more chance, not everybody has all of these social media and so it keeps it fair.

So you can have two goes at winning her if you wish!

I should point out that Verdi is not a toy and not suitable for children under the age of fourteen.

Verdi Collage

I’m going to keep the giveaway open until Friday 28th March, midnight GMT.

Thanks again for making my little blog worthwhile!!!

Happy weekend my friends! :)

*** The giveaway is now closed, thank you! ***

Oh my it has become very springlike and I’m loving it! I walked into town to do a bit of shopping this afternoon and it was warm in the sunshine.

All this spring talk leads me on to the real purpose of my post today, to announce the winner of the Country Living Magazine Spring Fair tickets.

The names of those wishing to take part were written out and put into my little bowl and the name drawn out was Jane.

I’m sorry there could only be one winner but you can still get discount on your tickets by calling 0844 848 0150 or online at http://www.countrylivingfair.com/Spring/book using the code Blog12

Please excuse my photos today as I have had to post using my iPad as I have a sick laptop which is at the ‘doctors’ at the moment. As much as I love my little iPad, I do prefer to edit my photos on the laptop, hopefully it will be fixed for the next post.

In the meantime thanks for dropping by, have a good rest of the week and Happy Pancake Tuesday, enjoy those pancakes! :)

DSCN1121

I have over the past week or so received some lovely happy mail which I thought I would share with you.

These beautiful vintage French seed labels came from Simply French Vintage.

DSCN1122

Aren’t they wonderful, I just love these images!

DSCN1118

Having read about this book on a few blogs I decided I would like to read the book itself.

Four Hedges for those of you who haven’t read it is about Clare Leighton who was one of the finest engravers of the twentieth century and about her passion for her garden.

Claire’s illustrations throughout the book are amazing.

DSCN1117

A lovely little parcel of fabric dropped onto the mat this week from Celtic Fusions Fabrics, definitely bunny skirt material!!!

DSCN1123

This also arrived in the post this week, all the way from Australia from the lovely Elizabeth who last year became the owner of Pixie. She sent me a photo of Pixie with a little koala who has now come to live with me in my craft room. Thank you Elizabeth it was lovely to see Pixie again.

DSCN1138

I was very lucky this week to win this beautiful artwork in a giveaway. I had just found My Painted Bear on Facebook and fell in love with Naomi’s art, I then noticed that she was having a giveaway, entered and luckily won. When I emailed Naomi I then found out that she too was from N. Ireland and had actually exhibited work in a gallery in my home town. Naomi’s work is beautiful, you can find her Etsy shop here and her blog here. Thank you Naomi.

DSCN1148

Now this pretty little bunny just arrived yesterday, isn’t she gorgeous? She is made by the very talented and clever Farrell & Holmes, I defy you not be tempted when you take a look at their website. The bunny is stuffed with lavender and I could smell it as the postman handed the package over to me. You can also find details of their work on their Facebook page.
